GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville FCU and Creative Builders Inc. have teamed up in producing one of the largest donations yet – $10,300 – for actor Paul Newman’s Victory Junction camp for needy youngsters. Under a matching arrangement with the local builder, the credit union over the last few months raised more than $5,000 on its own through raffles of TV sets at its branches, with Creative agreeing to match the funds raised through the raffle with its own money. “We’ve long had a close relationship with this credit union as well as other credit unions, and so when we heard about what they were doing we thought we would like to help this worthy cause,” explained William McCauley, president of Creative Builders. The company builds branches and does remodeling work for CUs and banks in North and South Carolina. GFCU President Paul Hughes said the credit union’s goal was to raise close to $5,000 for the camp. “For more than two months, our employees and our members embraced this effort with an overwhelming response. This was the largest goal we have set for our credit union in a very short amount of time. I am happy to say, we exceeded this goal.I am very proud of everyone involved. Without our employees, members, and Creative Builders, this accomplishment would not have been possible.” The Victory Junction charity campaign is led by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation of the North and South Carolina credit union leagues. The campaign seeks to raise funds to build cabins and other facilities opening this June at the Newman-sponsored camp in Randleman, N.C. The camp, like those in the Northeast, is designed to help youngsters with cancer and other crippling illnesses maintain a normal life.
