PEWAUKEE, Wis. -Some 300 credit unions here have raised over a quarter million dollars for the Children's Miracle Network. According to the credit unions, the donation represents the most funds raised ever by credit unions. The credit unions will present a check during the annual nationally televised broadcast of Miracle Celebration on June 4-6. About half the funds were raised in February, 2003 during the Chain of Hearts program, which asks credit union members to buy pink links in the name of loved ones during the Valentine season. "Credit unions aren't just about savings, checking, and loans. We strive to offer people a helping hand," said Pat Coone of WESTconsin CU who will appear on the broadcast as a representative for Wisconsin CUs. The Children's Miracle Network supports 170 not-for profit hospitals nationwide that treat children regardless of their families' ability to pay. Nationwide credit unions and their trade associations raise over $5.5 million each year as part of the Credit Unions for Kids program. Wisconsin ranks among the top 10 states in terms of credit union support for CMN.
