ESL Federal Credit Union, Rochester, N.Y., has helped raise $196,806.24 to benefit local charities here through the ESL Animal Scramble Auction. ESL Animal Scramble involved corporate sponsorships of 130 life-sized, fiberglass animals painted by local artists. The full purchase price of each animal was donated to charity. Fifty percent of each purchase was donated to pre-selected charities such as the American Lung Association, Arc of Monroe County, Epilepsy Foundation, ESL Charitable Foundation, Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The remaining 50% was awarded to a qualified 501(c) charity of the winning bidder's choice. Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union, Texas, has donated $36,160 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Abilene. This gift was made possible by credit union members who participated in a "Skip-a-Pay" fundraiser. Members could elect to skip one or two loan payments for a fee of $10 for each month skipped. The entire amount was designated for donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs. Greenville Federal Credit Union, S.C., has donated over $26,500 to support Junior Achievement. The donation helped JA better serve local kids. For over six years, Greenville FCU has been an active and engaged volunteer in the classroom while raising over $85,000 for JA in-school programs. Fundraising projects over the years include phone-a-thons, member raffle contests, and money raised through the credit union's Junior Achievement affinity debit card. Indiana Members Credit Union, Indianapolis, staffers have donated their financial talents and expertise to students at various Indiana schools and universities. Credit union employees and mascot bear Cubbie traveled to Center Grove Elementary, Mary Brian Elementary, Greenwood Middle School, IUPUI, and Earlham College to share information with students about the importance of managing their money. The Indiana Members Business Development team created a PowerPoint presentation that touched on the importance of savings accounts, basic checking, ATM and debit cards, credit cards, and loans. TruWest Credit Union, Mesa, Ariz., has sponsored the Red Mountain Open Invitations Youth Soccer Tournament for the second consecutive year. Thanks to the credit union over 1,000 boys and girls ages 10 to 19 were able to participate in the event from across the state. California Coast Credit Union, San Diego, has donated a truckload of new toys to the San Diego Children's Hospital. According to California Coast CU Marketing Specialist Cheryl Weaver and Children's Hospital Foundation Corporate Development Coordinator Lisa Reddy the donation, which included everything from Tonka trucks to stuffed animals, brought big smiles to patients' young faces.
