Looking back four years ago finds NCUA Board Member Dennis Dollar’s much anticipated Regulatory Flexibility and Exemption Program making its debut. Despite reservations by NCUA Board Chair Norman D’Amours over the advance notice of proposed rulemaking that would relieve FCU’s of regulatory restriction in six distinct areas, Reg-Flex was given a 60-day run before having to return for board review as a proposed rule. “I truly look forward to the comment periods helping us shape a final Reg-Flex rule that can be a shining example of how we can empower credit unions to innovate in a constantly changing marketplace with not necessarily more but smarter regulation,” said Dollar. Also in that issue CUNA rolls out Project Differentiation kits to more than 5,000 credit unions. “This will define credit unions,” said Vice President for Political Action/Grassroots Richard Gose. “When we are asked, as lobbyists why credit unions should not have CRA restrictions imposed on them we can offer concrete examples of how they serve all members, including the underserved. We can only cross the t’s and dot the i’s; we can’t tell the story, at least not as well as credit unions can do it themselves.”
