WASHINGTON – During remarks to CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference, House Financial Services Ranking Member Barney Frank told credit unions that their numbers far outweigh the banks' dollars on Capitol Hill. "For the 23 years I've been in the House.credit unions have been successful in the legislative process in debates with institutions that have more money and frankly give more money," he observed. That is the good thing about the American system, Frank said. Credit unions' grassroots capabilities have earned them respect in Washington, D.C. Frank suggested that credit unions argue their case on legislation based on what they do for consumers, not on what type of charter is better advantaged. "Stress the role you play in helping people. Whether one institution is helped or hurt is not relevant," he said.
