LYNCHBURG, Va.- Virginia credit unions can call 2003 the year of charitable milestones. According to the Virginia Credit Union League, last year credit unions here donated a total of over $1.07 million and 18,587 volunteer hours to various charities and community organizations. Contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation were a record-setting $214,380 and will enable the foundation to grant wishes for as many as 40 children. The remainder of the donated funds were given to the Children's Miracle Network, American Cancer Society, Toys for Tots, local United Ways, the American Red Cross community food banks, clothes closets, various prevention programs, and scores of other local and charitable causes.
