ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU announced that it has recently signed on as a partner in the Homeownership Alliance, an organization aimed at promoting expanded homeownership and sponsor of National Homeownership Month. "For many Americans, owning a home is the key to a bright financial future, creating a better way of life and improving the communities where they live," NAFCU President Fred Becker said. "Credit unions are a natural partner in the Alliance's efforts to ensure that more Americans are able to afford their own homes." The alliance focuses on the role of housing in the economy and society, removing homeownership obstacles, and closing the gap in minority and female homeownership. It uses a variety of mediums-Web site, advertising, studies and forums-to raise the issue. "Credit unions can have a huge impact on the lives of their members by helping them to purchase a home," Homeownership Alliance President Richard H. Davis commented. "We know that homeownership leads to financial stability, greater security and more civic involvement, and so we are delighted that NAFCU is teaming up with us to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for more Americans." The homeownership Alliance counts among its membership the Consumer Federation of America, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Independent Community Bankers of America, and the National Association of Realtorsr, and several others.
