I enjoyed Paul Gentile’s article entitled, “Corporates Look to Debunk Some Myths of Check 21″ in the February 11 issue of Credit Union Times. The article made it very obvious to me what many corporate credit unions are doing to ensure that their member credit unions know what Check 21 is all about (as well as what it is not about!) The corporates have clearly illustrated that they are credit unions’ “go to guys” for reliable information about this important marketplace development. As a 28-year credit union community veteran, I’ve been around long enough that I remember when U.S. Central Credit Union was only a PC and two people down in the basement of the Kansas Credit Union League building. The other corporates were mere fledglings just beginning to hint at the essential credit union business partners that they would become decades later. Member credit unions now rely on their corporate’s services and expertise every day – and that’s a good thing. Corporate credit unions have changed dramatically during the last 30 years. I predict that the corporate credit union community will see nearly as much significant positive change in just the next three years. Thanks again for your special focus on corporate credit unions and their important role in the broader credit union community. Marvin C.
