HANSON, Mass. – Hanscom Federal Credit Union member Donna Powers is literally cleaning up the clutter electronically thanks to the credit union's recent online promotion. Powers won a Roombar Intelligent FloorVac robotic vacuum cleaner in the $397 million credit union's "Clean up the Clutter" contest designed to encourage members to sign up for a new online statement service that began in November 2003. Members are notified by email when statements are ready and online statements can then be viewed, printed or saved to a personal computer for a permanent record. Within just three days of the program's launch, some 600 members signed up and two months later at the end of the contest Hanscom FCU had a total of over 2,000 registrants. "Approximately 85% of our transactions are done remotely, so being able to receive statements online has immediate appeal to many of our members," said Hanscom FCU Vice President of Marketing Scott Post. "But we didn't expect to get such an overwhelming response so soon. Given concerns about mailbox theft, as well as overseas deployment for a lot of our members, we're finding they really like the convenience and security." As for Powers, she is ready for the digital age and plans to sign up for the credit union's free bill pay service.
