DENVER – SunCorp Corporate CU, which merged with Nebraska Corporate Central CU a few years ago, started item processing for Nebraska CUs last week. It is processing Nebraska CUs through its Denver Regional Office. “We’re actually using electronic check presentment (ECP) to process those files, which we believe will help us prepare for Check21,” said SunCorp President/CEO Eric Kenealy, noting that other corporates are also using ECP. Check 21 does not mandate electronic image exchange, but it does break down some of the barriers and corporates into item processing are gearing up to take advantage of it. Kenealy said one of the problems, aside from banks not being ready, is telecommunications. T1 lines can be bogged down with image exchange. Kenealy sees the Internet as the mode of the future.
