Idaho League Gets Big Turnout For Legislative Session

BOISE, Idaho – In a testimonial to a growing respect for the credit union industry, the Idaho Credit Union League said it drew a record turnout of lawmakers – 63 out of a possible 105 – for its annual Governmental Affairs Conference recently held here. “I think the most we ever got before were 40,” said Alan Cameron, president and CEO in discussing the favorable reception the League got from both lawmakers and CU executives regarding the one-day event which featured a mix of discussion on pending bills impacting CUs on everything from the USA Patriot Act to bankruptcy reform. Also featured was discussion on pressing statewide issues and a luncheon speech on the local economy. The session featured a call-in presentation and an audience Q&A with comments from the state’s congressional delegation including the state’s two Republican senators, Larry Craig and Mike Crapo, and U.S. Rep. Michael Simpson (R-Idaho). Sen. Crapo specifically lauded the League for its work in helping minorities in financial education and reducing illiteracy through the Idaho Migrant Council.
