Empire Corporate FCU and New York League Meet With Legislators

LATHAM, N.Y. – Empire Corporate and the New York State CU League each sent representatives to Albany last week to meet with key legislators. Empire Corporate FCU Senior Vice President, Corporate Relations Dirck Van Deusen joined Amy Kramer, Director of Governmental Affairs, New York State Credit Union League, in Albany. The pair briefed legislators representing Empire Corporate FCU’s headquarters in New York, which included Assemblyman James Tedisco (R), Assemblyman John McEneny (D), and Assemblyman Ronald Canestrari (D), on the importance of the corporate credit union within the credit union system. Empire Corporate also voiced its concerns about the possibility of the state expanding “opt in” privacy legislation beyond current federal law, a measure that could greatly affect Empire Corporate’s ability to do business with credit unions. “Opt in” legislation, if adopted, would require credit unions to obtain an affirmative consent from consumers before the most routine information could be shared with the Corporate. Empire Corporate and the NYSCUL believe that the “opt in” requirement would be costly for credit unions and hinder product information to members.
