SAN FRANCISCO – VISA USA has announced that merchants participating in a new service with the card association can let consumers know at the point-of-sale how much money remains on their VISA branded gift cards. Consumers shopping at participating retailers, which most recently includes Best Buy, will now see the balance remaining on their gift card at the bottom of their receipts from their purchase, the association said. Previously consumers would have had to make a phone call or go to the Internet to find out how much money remained on their cards. Not knowing their balances led to consumers' frustration as sometimes purchases were declined because of insufficient balances on the cards.
