LATHAM, N.Y. – The New York Credit Union League announced that at year end 2003, the legislative districts of 37% of credit union members in the state were captured through CUNA’s Project Zip Code. That translates to 1.5 million New York State credit union members and 53 credit unions. The League says New York credit unions cumulatively have more than $32 billion in assets and more than 3.9 million members. NYSCUL President/CEO William Mellin said the information gathered through Project Zip Code “is already helping our lobbying efforts at both state and national levels.” Since “we all know that nothing is more valuable to our legislators than their constituents,” Mellin described Project Zip Code as “grassroots lobbying at its best.”
