WASHINGTON-Credit unions and other cooperatives have been provided a new option for registering or renewing their .coop Internet addressees through Pennsylvania-based Domain Bank, Inc. “We really are pleased to have Domain Bank available for those in North America who want a local registration option,” National Cooperative Business Association CEO Paul Hazen said, which won Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ approval for the .coop top-level domain in November 2000. “Domain Bank is highly regarded in the industry and a North American registrar is something we all have wanted for some time.” NCBA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and represents various types of cooperatives. Hazen also pointed out that Domain Bank offers free and easy activity as part of the registration fee, as well as forwarding services and website support. In addition, Domain Bank can register cooperatives that want to continue to use .com or .org. Domain Bank, which was founded in 1997, is the 10th largest domain registrar in the country and among the 20 largest worldwide. Previously only Poptel, Secura, Tuonome, and CORE, all of which are European companies, registered .coop names. Those interested in registering with Domain Bank can go to the NCBA website, www.ncba.coop, and click on the .coop logo at the bottom of the homepage or call Richard Dines at 202-383-5442. Those looking to renew can visit www.domainbank.net/ coop/transfer.cfm. Currently, 7,500 .coop names are registered in 50 countries.
