WASHINGTON-Last month, Congressman Doug Bereuter (R-Neb.) officially announced that he would not be seeking reelection to the seat that he has easily won in the last 13 elections. "Rep. Bereuter has had a distinguished career over his 25 years in the Congress. CUNA has enjoyed working with the congressman on a number of different issues, but particularly in his capacity as a member of the International Relations Committee, where he graciously extended his assistance in matters affecting credit unions in the international arena," CUNA Vice President of Legislative Affairs and Senior Legislative Counsel Gary Kohn said. Bereuter was a member of the Financial Services, International Relations and Transportation & Infrastructure committees as well as serving as vice chair of the Select Intelligence Committee. Bereuter was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1978 after several jobs as a state legislator, businessman, army officer, college educator, urban planner, and state agency administrator.
