LATHAM, N.Y. – One cute terrycloth lion has helped credit unions here raise over $78,000 as part of Credit Unions Care for Kids. New York credit unions not only tapped into the popularity of the New York State Credit Union League's 2003 Care for Kids mascot Louie the Lion, but also sold cards, candy and sponsored various activities to raise funds. All proceeds have been donated to local children programs and organizations that are dedicated to serving children in need. "We are proud of the dedication our credit unions' have to this program," said League President/CEO William J. Mellin. "This program is just one more way in which New York credit unions are making a difference in their communities."
