PLANO, Texas – Credit union members in the state of Texas regularly use a branch of one credit union to make roughly 10%, on a monthly basis, of all the state's shared branching transactions that are routed through the Credit Union Service Corporation, one of the nation's three nationwide shared branching networks. Of the roughly 240,000 Texas transactions that CUSC processes each month, the 32 branches of the $1.3 billion Community Credit Union, based in Plano, Texas, acquires roughly 25,000 of them. "Our branches are just very convenient and, because of that, are popular with many different credit union members," said Kimberly Phillips, Chief Operating Officer for the credit union. That degree of volume has benefited the credit union financially as well, she reported. The credit union makes roughly $15,000 per month from the shared branching transactions. Community CU benefits from having a large presence in the greater Dallas and Fort Worth area, which Phillips called the "metroplex." That presence means that the credit union's branches are popular with members of other credit unions who have business in the area. For example, the $2.4 billion Delta Employees Credit Union, based in Atlanta has the most members which use Community's shared branching.
