MADISON, Wis. -North Island Financial Credit Union Board Director J. Alvin George has been named the 2003 CUES Directors Educational Forum Director of the Year. The DEF Director of the Year Award recognizes board members who raise the bar for excellence in credit union volunteerism. George has been an active credit union volunteer since 1948 serving as past president of the California Credit Union League, past CUNA chair, and former director of the World Council of Credit Unions. He continues to serve as a delegate to the CCUL and has served NIFCU for the past six years. Among his many accomplishments as a volunteer, George has helped organize Central CU, Camp Pendleton CU (now Pacific Marine CU) and WesCorp. In addition, he was involved in the development of CUNA's share draft program and the reorganization of the WOCCU. As part of the award, CUES will donate $250 to a charitable organization on George's behalf.
