VIENNA, Va. – Navy Federal Credit Union is showing its support for employees who were activated or volunteered for military duty by offering them supplemental pay. The move by the $19.9 billion credit union is in recognition of the financial hardships that may result from mobilization or recall. “As a credit union that serves and supports the Department of the Navy, we feel it is right and fitting to show that same level of support and commitment to our own employees who defend our country’s freedom,” said Navy Federal President/CEO Brian McDonnell. Employees qualify for the supplemental pay if activated for a period exceeding 30 days and if their Navy Federal pay exceeds that of their military pay plus housing allowance. The credit union pays the difference for up to 12 months. Currently Navy Federal CU has 12 employees who have been called to active duty with nine still serving on active-duty. Of those individuals, three employees currently qualify and receive the supplemental military pay benefit. A total of 27 Navy Federal employees have been called to active duty since September 11, 2001.
