VANCOUVER, Wash. – With the official opening of the Federal Investigative Center, federal authorities are serving notice to criminals that “they can’t get away with it”. According to U.S Attorney John McKay of Seattle, the center is a multi-agency collaboration that will act as the clearinghouse for federal prosecution in the southwestern counties and evaluate the need for additional federal resources. Created in response to concerns about increased crime here, the center houses agents from the U.S. Marshal’s Service; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Enforcement; Drug Enforcement Administration; U.S. Postal Inspection Service; Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement; FBI; U.S. Secret Service; U.S. Attorney’s Office; and IRS. The center is the only such office in the state and could be a model for other areas.
