SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Before an audience of nearly 7,500 supporters, dignitaries and celebrities, Arnold Schwarzenegger was sworn in as California’s new governor on Nov. 17. Behind the scenes, a number of credit unions here have already met with Schwarzenegger’s transition team, said Mark Lowe, California Credit Union League public relations specialist. Lowe could only confirm that while a meeting with Schwarzenegger has not occurred, several credit union officials have meet with members of the newly-sworn Governor’s transition team, chaired by Calif. Congressman David Drier and comprised of 68 Democrats and Republicans. No information was available about the nature of those meetings. The league is planning to meet with the transition team in the near future, Lowe said. Democrats on Schwarzenegger’s team include San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn. Republicans including California Senate leader Jim Brulte, former state governor Pete Wilson, former secretary of State George Shultz, former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan are also on the team. Susan Estrich, a law school professor who was Michael Dukakis’ campaign manager in the 1988 presidential race and Ivan Reitman, director of three Schwarzenegger movies were also tapped to serve. Billionaire Warren Buffett, a Democrat who co-chaired Schwarzenegger’s economic advisors council during the recall campaign, surprisingly, is not on the transition team.
