RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – The 2003 California Youth Involvement Network roundtables have revealed that more credit unions are creating positions dedicated to promoting financial education in their communities. The back-to-back roundtables, one in Southern California and the other in Northern California, were developed to encourage participants to explore and discuss youth-related products, financial literacy programs, and share ideas on ways to promote financial literacy to young people throughout their communities. According to Linda Lewis, youth marketing coordinator with Burbank City Employees FCU, education is vital because a successful youth program has to be more than just youth-oriented savings accounts or other products. In addition there must be senior management and board buy-in. The California Youth Involvement Network is a volunteer organization supported by the California Credit Union League that promotes youth education in consumer finance. [email protected]
