WASHINGTON – The House Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity and the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit will hold a joint hearing Nov. 5 on "Protecting Homeowners: Preventing Abusive Lending While Preserving Access to Credit." A spokesperson for the House Financial Services Committee said the hearing, which was called by Rep. Robert Ney (R-Ohio), chairman of the Housing and Community Opportunity Subcommittee, and Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.), chairman of the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee, is being held "to discuss the issue of abusive lending and to look for solutions to preventing the practices." A witness list for the hearing is expected to be released the week of Nov. 3.
