Tobyhanna Army Depot Federal Credit Union,Scranton, Pa., employees not only walked in the American Lung Cancer Association Asthma Walk but also managed to donate $1,250. Staffers raised funds by selling paper whistles. Citadel Federal Credit Union,Thorndale, Pa., has selected James Pownall as its Smart Start winner. The Citadel Smart Start is a complete online account switching service and during the two-month promotional period Citadel FCU had nearly 300 people switch their accounts from a bank to the credit union. For every switch members were entered into a drawing to win $1,000. Pownall not only walked away with $1,000, but a complete beach pack including a beach umbrella and chair, a cooler and beach towel. Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, has hosted an emergency blood drive in support of the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center. SSFCU typically hosts a blood drive twice a year, but with blood supply at an all-time low, an emergency drive was organized in an effort to help replenish the stock. In just two hours some 20 SSFCU staffers donated blood. First Credit Union, Tempe, Ariz., has raised over $2,500 for breast cancer research, treatment and education at the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. About 95 employees and friends participated in the City of Hope Walk to Cure Breast Cancer. Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., has donated $64,000 to area charitable organizations through its Community Involvement program. These donations have had a positive impact on more than 18,000 individuals. Pacific Service’s Community Involvement program focuses on assisting low-income, at-risk children, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the American Red Cross, low-income credit unions, and recognizing employees of the Credit Union for their community service. Since 2001, a total of $288,000 has been donated by Pacific Service CU to benefit the lives of over 44,000 individuals.
