SEATTLE – The Starbucks international coffee empire is rolling out a combination Visa Credit Card and its popular pre-paid Starbucks card, a move which promises to take the burgeoning pre-paid card market to new levels. Sixteen million Starbucks pre-paid cards have been activated since it began to offer the product and the company reports that 15 people use their pre-paid Starbucks card every second. The company is working with BankOne as the card issuing bank for the Visa side of the offering. In addition to being able to both reload the card, the cardholders will be able to use the card anywhere that accepts Visa. Reloading and using the card will both generate funds that Starbucks will donate to charity and earn the cardholder points they can use to purchase other Starbucks products.
