SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame Federal Credit Union is hoping a new bilingual branch in a supermarket will help build stronger ties with the area Hispanic community. NDFCU President/CEO Leo Ditchcreek said it took a year to find bilingual personnel for the branch, and according to NDFCU Western Avenue Branch Manager Shirley Ponce, the branch marks the first bilingual banking facility here. Not only is the entire staff of the full-service, walk-in branch bilingual, but brochures are also available in English and Spanish. The NDFCU outlet has been about five years in the making and if it is well received plans are being readied to have more bilingual branches in the predominantly Latino area.
