HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – For the third time, the New Jersey Credit Union League has put out its annual Voter Guide for the upcoming November State Elections. The guide is designed to inform and educate credit union leaders and members on important issues and supportive legislators to the credit union movement in New Jersey. The Guide includes information on: who's eligible to vote, the State offices that are up for election, a list of questions concerning credit union issues used to poll legislators and their responses, and a legislative district locator by municipality. The New Jersey Credit Union League has successfully identified the voting districts for over 250,000 credit union members in New Jersey through CUNA's Project Zip Code effort. According to recent statistics, more than 43% of credit union members are eligible voters. Two months ago, in August, the League mailed informational packets and surveys to every incumbent and challenger to poll the legislators on their opinions concerning support for key credit union issues in state government. NJCUL Director of Governmental Affairs Evan Childs said the League hopes the Guide encourages members to stay active, or become active in the November General Elections. "If credit union people don't vote, credit union people won't count," he said. "We are empowering everyone in the credit union movement to become active in the political process."
