AurGroup Financial Credit Union, Fairfield, Ohio, has raised over $7,000 for Diabetes research during its “End of Summer Beach Party” at the Fairfield Aquatic Center. Some 100 residents attended and enjoyed various activities, including some extravagant gift basket raffles. To top off the festivities, AurGroup FCU’s hula girls entertained guests by the poolside during a 20-minute show of their talents. Money raised from the event will go to support the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes research. Idaho Credit Union League, Boise, staffers teamed up with Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. of Boise (NHS) to lay sod for a single woman as part of the United Way of Treasure Valley Days of Caring campaign. Days of Caring is a weeklong celebration of service opportunities. Denton Area Teachers Credit Union, Texas, has raised over $14,000 for the United Way of Denton County. Whether it was selling cookbooks full of delicious employee recipes, having a bake sale, handing out refreshments in the drive thru, or taking turns dunking their favorite executive in the “dunking booth”, DATCU staffer efforts helped the credit union increase its donations this year by 274%. Cyprus Credit Union,Salt Lake City, Utah, has donated $57,000 to the Primary Children’s Medical Center. CCU members donated $25 to participate in the “skip a payment” program to benefit the medical facility. The hospital provides a “colorful” and “fun” setting that helps reduce the anxieties and fears of children, and engages them in activities. Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., staffers took a day off to sand and seal wooden playground equipment at Child Nursery Centers in downtown Colorado Springs. The employees were participating in Pikes Peak United Way’s Community Building Weekend. Child Nursery Centers is a Pikes Peak United Way partner agency and provides comprehensive, income-based childcare to working families. VyStar Credit Union, Jacksonville, Fla., President/CEO Terry West has shaved his head since employees were able to exceed the credit union’s United Way donations by 50%. West promised to shave his head if staffers met the goal. The Credit Union Alliance of San Diego, has donated its time to team up with the nonprofit organization People For Trees and District 5 Councilmember Brian Maienschein to plant 21 new trees. In addition, the Credit Union Alliance has presented a check for $2,000 to People for Trees. The funds will be used to update the non-profit agency’s office equipment. Shell Employees Federal Credit Union, Texas, has donated $5,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Employees also donated their time to help out by answering telephones and taking contributions during the telethon. This was the first year Shell Employees FCU participated in the telethon.
