FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – John M. Floyd & Associates was named by CU Association of the West LLC as its strategic provider for JMFA's Overdraft PrivilegeT program. "Overdraft privilege allows credit unions to increase their non-interest income without raising fees or making any capital outlay, by integrating into their existing core processing system a program that makes automated NSF decisions," said CUAW Chairman Gene Poitras, president/CEO, Credit Union Association of Oregon. "With overdraft privilege, credit unions don't have to scan each day's presented checks and determine manually which overdrafts to honor," he added. Sylvia Fath, vp, business services for the California Credit Union League said, "Overdraft privilege provides a safety net for credit union members, but it is not a license for members to be irresponsible with their share drafts." She offered that one of the advantages of overdraft privilege is it lets credit unions monitor overdraft use and collections, "so credit union can keep in close contact with members and counsel those who perhaps are relying too much on their overdraft protection." JMFA's overdraft privilege program automatically covers overdrafts to a preset limit for an entire class of share draft accounts. It allows credit unions to determine when a member's overdraft privilege take effect.
