ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Member credit unions of PSCU Financial Services, which serves more than 500 credit unions that process their card transactions with Denver-based First Data Resources, will soon be able to offer their small business members a debit card. "Many credit unions are courting small businesses, and a debit card program is a very attractive addition to their portfolio of services," said PSCU Financial Services President David Serlo. "Businesses view debit cards as an efficient way to manage cash flow. Employees say that using a debit card is faster and easier than writing a check. And credit unions benefit from higher fees and satisfied business customers. It's a winning proposition for everyone involved." A commercial debit program offers standard Visa transaction fees and interchange rates, which are higher than consumer debit cards, PSCU said. At the same time, debit cards reduce a credit union's expenses related to handling checks and can decrease time spent at branch offices. The new business debit card program automatically deducts purchases from a business' primary business checking account, and does not require a line of credit.
