STAMFORD, Conn. – Assuaging security concerns and keeping it cheap, or better yet, free, is the say to attract online bill pay members, a new survey indicates. InsightExpress, a marketing research firm, recently surveyed 500 online Americans and found that 57% of them were paying at least one of their bills online, more than triple the number (17%) in a similar survey three years ago. The most commonly cited method for online bill pay was a credit card provider's Web site (58%), followed by the primary financial institution's site (52%), the survey found. Meanwhile, 76% of the respondents cited security concerns as a reason to not pay bills online, a number unchanged since the previous survey, InsightExpress said, and 62% said they were unwilling to pay fees for the service. "Firms that offer and promote no-fee online bill payment in combination with limited liability will be most successful in accelerating the transition and preventing the loss of their customers to the competition," says Lee Smith, president and COO of Stamford-based InsightExpress. – [email protected]
