POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Statistics have shown that senior citizens are particularly vulnerable to identity theft, and now Hudson Valley FCU has launched an initiative aimed at helping protect senior citizens from becoming victims of the fraud. The $1.6 billion credit union's Community Relations Coordinators are speaking with area senior citizens in free identity theft seminars and providing them with valuable information and suggestions on how they protect their confidential information from being stolen. HVFCU has also donated paper shredders to each senior center it's visited, as well as distributed checklists for seniors to use as a quick reference guide. The checklist provides the agencies and phone numbers of who to contact in case the senior citizens become victims of identity theft.
