BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -America's First Federal Credit Union has been named Talladega Superspeedway's “official credit union” and NASCAR fans in the state have been cheering. Formerly Alabama International Speedway, Talladega is Alabama's only NASCAR racetrack. The track hosts two Winston Cup events every season, the Aaron's 499 in the spring and the EA Sports 500 in the fall. “We are thrilled to be affiliated with Talladega Superspeedway, the icon for racing in this state,” said David Adcock, President/CEO of America's First. “I feel that the pairing of America's First and Talladega Superspeedway will be a benefit to us all.” According to America's First FCU Marketing Specialist Kathy Dunlap, the arrangement has been in the works for just six months. The $550 million credit union sponsors the speedway itself, and while specifics of the costs involved were not shared, the agreement includes signage in the speedway, free tickets to the races, radio spots, and use of the Talladega Superspeedway logo. “Honestly we couldn't be more excited about this,” said Dunlap. “Not only did we add 4,000 employees as members but the staffers that park the cars, which total about 800, are also sporting America First FCU T-shirts on race days. The superspeedway itself has an average attendance of 175,000 people a day-which means from a marketing standpoint our name is now visible to some 500,000 people in just a four-day period. We couldn't ask for better placement.” Dunlap says it has been fun designing promotional ads in-house and member response to the recent “Speedway of Savings” promotion, which has a grand prize of two free tickets to the races, has been phenomenal. Members simply have to finance or refinance their vehicle with the credit union to be entered in the raffle. The winning names will be drawn and announced before the EA Sports 500 race begins on September 26. Fans are looking forward to seeing if Dale Earnhardt Jr. will continue his winning streak. Dunlap says other promotions are in the works for spring.
