WASHINGTON-Republicans running for reelection to the U.S. Congress received the highest political action committee contributions from CUNA last month, according to data from the Federal Election Commission. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) received $5,950.05 from CUNA’s Credit Union Legislative Action Council between campaign contributions and an event held at Credit Union House. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), a member of the Banking Committee, got $3,000 from CULAC’s coffers. On the House side, Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) received $2,500 from CULAC, as did Representatives Richard Pombo (R-Calif.) and Steve Buyer (R-Ind.). In all, CULAC contributed $80,137.60 in July for a year-to-date total of $808,811.63. The national PAC took in $135,876.40 in July. Its largest receipt came from the Arkansas Credit Union League PAC in the amount of $5,102.56. So far in this election cycle (03-04), CULAC has received $761,224.97 in contributions.
