MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – St. Mary’s Credit Union has helped save a parade. The $393 million credit union has donated $15,000 to ensure the 52nd annual Marlborough Labor Day Holiday Parade, which carries the title “A Community Together Making a Difference”, goes off without a hitch. Under financial pressure this year, public funding for the annual tradition was cut from the city’s budget. Randy Scott, co-chairman of the Save the Parade coalition said the large donation combined with fund-raising efforts made the Sept. 1 possible. “Our board is very aware of the situation with regards to the parade and our directors, many of them have lived in Marlborough their entire lifetime or have attended the parade for the past 52 years,” said Jim Toohey, clerk of St. Mary’s CU board of directors. “We feel the citizenry have shown their interest in keeping this event and we felt we should step up to the plate and help out.”
