DURHAM, N. C. – Experts agree that the earlier credit unions tap into the youth market the better. The Latino Community Credit Union is doing its part to help local kids and teens become more financially savvy by recently launching two new savings accounts- the Children’s Account, for those up to 12 years old, and the “L” Account, for those age 13 to 18. The accounts have been designed to give children and young people the opportunity to learn how a bank account works, how to fill out deposit and withdrawal tickets, use ATMs, read a bank statement, and more. Members will also receive newsletters twice a year filled with fun, financial management tips. Younger members who mange to save $25 for the Children’s Account and $50 for the “L” Account, will be entered into monthly raffles for prizes such as computers or bicycles. To kickoff the programs, members who open a savings account between Aug. 1 and Oct. 31 will be entered in a raffle to win one of nine computers. Drawings will be held in November.
