INDIANAPOLIS – re:Member Data Services (RDS) has begun upgrading client ATMs with the new Triple DES security standards required by card issuers including Visa and MasterCard. The first installation was at an ATM belonging to $27 million Jet Credit Union in RDS' hometown of Indianapolis. The installation required Jet to load new encryption keys at the ATM and RDS to load those keys on a secure-encryption device in the core processing vendor's service bureau center. The ATM was brought back online after installation and both on-us and foreign transactions were tested to verify successful processing. RDS said the process took less than an hour. Triple DES security helps protect consumers' personal identification numbers by replacing the current encryption standard with a triple encryption algorithm.
