NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – For Water and Power Community Credit Union fun is the main ingredient this summer in its youth outreach efforts. The $420 million credit union has recently sponsored the first-ever watermelon-eating contest at the popular Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce Street Fair. The football team and the R.O.T.C. of two Granada Hills high schools competed for prizes by eating a whole watermelon cut into slices within five minutes. While the cheerleaders of the high schools sang out for their respective teams, the students attempted to eat the watermelon without using their hands while onlookers cheered them on. Water and Power Community Credit Union awarded the winners gas cards for their participation. Over 110 businesses participated in the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce Street Fair, which had up to 5,000 attendees. In recent weeks, WPCCU has also hosted a series of competitions for North Valley Youth Baseball.
