YORK, Pa. – Hopes are high at the York Suburban School District that a new program offered by York Educational Federal Credit Union will help kickoff the school year. The York Suburban school board has approved the pilot program, which makes accounts available to students, with the stipulation that the credit union cannot use the district as a vehicle to solicit members. According to York Educational FCU President Dave Baker the move to offer accounts to students is not new. Central York Federal Credit Union started a similar and successful program for Central York School District students in 2001. “It is a way to increase enrollment and, at the same time, give young people an opportunity to learn how to handle their finances,” said Baker. Plans are underway for the credit union to spread the word of the new program during football games and in the district’s high school musical.
