SALEM, Ore. – As identity theft becomes a growing problem, businesses and consumers alike are turning to shredders. Paper shredding companies nationwide are reporting an increase in demand for their services and in 2002 some 4 million paper shredding machines were purchased for home use- up 11% from the previous year. IBEW/SJ Cascade Federal Credit Union is doing its part to help protect members while fundraising by teaming with local shredder Garten Services Inc. Members stopping by the credit union can have one grocery bag full of paper shredded for a minimum donation of $1 to Garten Services. Garten Services, Inc., a nonprofit organization that employs people with disabilities, started its mobile shredding services four years ago with just 27 accounts-it now services over 400 accounts.
