WASHINGTON-The line to be a speaker at NAFCU's Congressional Caucus to be held in Washington, D.C. from September 21-24 is forming. Thus far, congressional leaders who have accepted the invitation to address the group include House Financial Services Chairman Mike Oxley (R-Ohio), Ranking Member Barney Frank (D-Mass.), Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.), and H.R. 1151 sponsors Steve LaTourette (R-Ohio) and Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.). In addition Senator Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) has agreed to speak. NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar, Vice Chair JoAnn Johnson, and Board Member Deborah Matz have also said they would make an appearance. Several legislative issues that credit unions are interested in are expected to come up in September, including regulatory relief, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, and possibly bankruptcy reform.
