BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad, meeting with the Minnesota Credit Union Network Aug. 6, committed to promote credit unions and fight attempts to tax credit unions. Speaking at a meet-and-greet hosted by US FCU, Ramstad recognized the important role credit unions play in the economy. "We have to do everything we can as policymakers on the state and federal level to promote credit unions – not put road blocks up for credit unions, not to try and tax what you're doing. You're a not-for-profit organization, owned by your members, and like other not-for-profit organizations, should not be taxed," he said. In addition to addressing the CU taxation issue, Ramstad also addressed other important timely issues such as healthcare, the economy, public education and transportation. He also reemphasized his support of reauthorizing the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
