Chetco Federal Credit Union, Harbor, Ore., has awarded a total of $40,500 to several lucky high school scholarship recipients. This year’s winners include Brian Seward, Robert Morin, Audra Loeber, Lena Hawthorne, Anthony Pagano, Katrina Parke, Cynthia Ramirez Salazar and Candace Fugate. Saugus Federal Credit Union, Mass., has awarded three high school students each $1,000 scholarships. The scholarships were awarded to Kerry Klimek, Giuseppina Prinzivalli, and Elizabeth Davis based on their academic and extracurricular achievements with consideration given to students who work at the school’s credit union branch. Established in 1990, the program has awarded $15,000 to local high school graduates. Nutmeg State Federal Credit Union, Rocky Hill, Conn., has awarded three $2,000 Arthur E. Werner Memorial Scholarships. This year’s recipients are Jared Kaprove, Lindsay Kurasz and Lindsay Walsh. Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union, Westbury, N.Y., has awarded a total of $35,000 to seventy graduating seniors who attend Nassau County public and private schools. In addition, $2,000 was awarded to four seniors related to Nassau Educators members, regardless of where they attended school. The seventy scholarships were awarded based individual Nassau County high school criteria. Family scholarship recipients were selected based on academic excellence and service-to-community. Louisiana Credit Union League, Harahan, has awarded the 2003 Edgar L. Fontaine Memorial Scholarship to Lisa Lewis, vice president of Carter Federal Credit Union. Lewis will receive 100% tuition for the first year and 50% tuition for the second and third years. The Edgar L. Fontaine Memorial Scholarship is a three-year scholarship to the Southeast CUNA Management School in Athens Georgia. Point Loma Credit Union, San Diego, has awarded $2,500 college scholarships to deserving local students for the sixth consecutive year. This year’s three $2,500 scholarships were presented to Naveen Krishnan, Nathaniel Smith and Kimberly Barth. Students were awarded scholarships based on written essays, academic achievement, and extracurricular activities. Maine Credit Union League, Westbrook, has announced that credit unions here have awarded over $100,000 in scholarship money to the graduating Class of 2003. The scholarship amounts awarded by Maine’s credit unions ranged from $250 – $10,000. In addition to awarding scholarships, many Maine credit unions also presented free, financial aid seminars this past spring to help parents and their children finance a college education.
