PASADENA, Calif. – Realtors who assist Wescom CU members with buying or selling a home are no longer the only ones making commissions off the transactions. The credit union’s new Realtor Rebate program is giving money back to the members as well. The Realtor Rebate program allows homebuyers and sellers a 20% rebate on their agent’s “typical” 3% commission. Made possible through Wescom’s arrangements with several realty companies, credit union members can potentially save thousands of dollars on their home sales and purchases, said Tom Orman, Wescom vice president of real estate. He said realtors are very receptive to the program because a solid pre-approval makes the real estate transaction go more smoothly. The program brings together participating realtors in the credit union’s five-county service area with Wescom members who have been pre-qualified for Wescom real estate financing. “Someone selling their home for $350,000 and then purchasing one for $500,000 would earn a $2,100 rebate on the sale and $3,000 on the purchase, based on typical three percent realtor commissions,” Orman explained. “That’s a rebate of over $5,000 back to them which is theirs to keep. It’s a win-win for everyone.” The only requirement to participate in the program is to be a Wescom member and to contact the credit union before they buy or sell their home. Wescom’s field-of-membership includes people living and working in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. Realtors participating in the program, through Wescom’s 25 branches throughout Southern California include Coldwell Banker, Dilbeck Realtors, Prudential and Professional Agent Referral. Orman said the credit union is “extremely selective about the realtors who participate in the program,” adding, “we monitor service levels very closely to make sure our members get great service in addition to a great deal.” Wescom has more than 200,000 members and $2.4 billion in assets.
