ARLINGTON, Va. – NASCUS has alerted credit unions to be on the lookout for a company fraudulently calling itself "Century Credit Union" that has been advertising in Missouri newspapers offering financial services such as credit repair and home, personal, and auto loans and listing an 800-number to call. According to NASCUS, there are five state or federally chartered credit unions with "Century" in their name, and none are affiliated with this company. The five legitimate Century CUs are: Century Credit Union, St. Louis, Mo.; Century FCU, Cleveland, Ohio; Century Diversified FCU, Minneapolis, Minn,.Century Employees Saving Fund CU, Hickory, N.C.; and Century Heritage FCU, West Mifflin, Pa. There is evidence that this company is based in Florida and someone representing himself as an agent of the company tried to purchase advertising in California using fraudulent credit card numbers. Both Missouri and Florida have initiated investigations, and the FBI has been alerted. Credit unions that see an advertisement for "Century Credit Union" that looks suspicious are urged to contact their regulator.
