NEW YORK – A national research study released by New York Life Investment Management LLC finds that Generation X investors are similar to Baby Boomers and Matures (over age 60) in their savings patterns and attitudes. The NYLIM Generations Study found that 82% of Gen Xers save regularly for retirement, compared with 83% of boomers and 76% of non-retired matures. In terms of values, 73% of Gen Xers rank family above career, wealth and leisure, as do 64% of boomers and 52% of matures. Health considerations rank second among all three segments, with 10% of Gen Xers, 25% of boomers and 34% of matures identifying “health” as most important. In addition, one-third of Gen Xers have a comprehensive financial plan, compared with 38% of boomers and 47% of matures. Some 26% of Gen Xers invest in 529 savings plans, up from 18% in 2002, compared with the 12% of boomers and 6% of matures that also invest in these plans.
