SAGINAW, Mich. – One of Saginaw's oldest credit unions is changing its name to match its new community charter. Saginaw Municipal Employees Credit Union will become Family First CU on Aug. 1. SMECU has served city workers since 1939. "This change to the CU's charter marks the first major change in the field of membership of one of Saginaw's oldest CUs," said SMECU President and CEO Sally Kohlhoff. SMECU, which has 4,456 members and assets of $40.9 million, has served city workers since 1939. Its community charter will allow it to serve anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Saginaw or Bay counties.
