BATON ROUGE, La.-Louisiana credit unions raised more than $54,000 this year as part of their CULAC Challenge to raise money for CUNA’s Credit Union Legislative Action Council. The CULAC Challenge is a competition held between the Louisiana Credit Union League’s nine chapters from Jan. 1 through June 19, the last day of the league’s annual meeting. The league raised more than $13,000 at its 69th Annual Meeting and Convention alone, held June 17-19. “The CULAC Challenge, which is in its third year, has been a very successful fundraiser for us,” League Vice President of Governmental and Public Affairs Connie Major said. “Not only have we raised a lot of money, but more importantly it has served to create awareness and a better understanding of the importance of CULAC to the future of the credit union movement.” Seven of the nine chapters exceeded their fundraising goals, which are set at four cents per member, per credit union in the chapter by the CULAC Committee. The Alexandria chapter received the CULAC Challenge Champion award for raising 427% of its goal. The Baton Rouge chapter was also recognized for raising the most money, more than $13,000. La Capitol Federal Credit Union (Baton Rouge) President and CEO Susan Leake came out as the top personal contributor and was presented with home game tickets for the New Orleans Saints and hotel accommodations.
