PINEHURST, N.C. – Campers at the Victory Junction Gang Camp will now have a Spiritual Center thanks to the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. CCUF will build the Larry and Hanna Johnson Spiritual Center in honor of retiring North Carolina Credit Union League President Larry Johnson. “This Spiritual Center has been funded by the generosity of North Carolina’s credit unions who invested over $50 million in the Community Investment Fund, as well as direct contributions to this project and additional CIF investment commitments of more than $5 million,” said CCUF Executive Director Steve Elam. “This is a wonderful way to recognize the 36 years Larry Johnson has given in service to the credit unions of North Carolina. Support of this cause seemed like second nature to these credit unions.” Victory Junction Gang Camp, founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty in honor of their late son Adam, is the most recent addition to Paul Newman’s family of Hole In The Wall Gang Camps and will be the only multi-disease camp of its kind in the Carolinas and Virginia. Its mission is to enrich the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses by creating camp experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. Victory Junction Gang Camp will provide free camp sessions year-round for children ages 7-15. Victory Junction is located in Randleman, N.C. on 75 acres of land donated by Richard and Lynda Petty. The racing-themed camp will feature 36 buildings including a sophisticated, fully staffed medical facility, named “The Body Shop.” The Foundation’s previous contribution of $500,000 will build two cabins for campers, named for credit unions in North and South Carolina.
